Project Case Studies
Artifacts
Overview: Artifacts are physical objects to provide a sense of reality and engage visitors. Actual artifacts are difficult to locate or prohibitively expensive to borrow. I am able to create a variety of exhibit artifacts that enhance visitor engagement. Below are some examples of work I’ve done.
Branding a Forgotten Fort
Scope: How do you drive economic growth with 275 years of history and an 18th century fort? Bring it to life and make it interesting!
Recreate a Civil War Era Store
Scope: Recreate the original Civil War era general store floor plan, counters and shelving by working from historical documents, photographs and onsite archaeological indications.
Signage to Inspire & Inform
Overview: I believe the primary goal of signs and labels is to inspire the visitor to explore more about the topics presented. My approach is to ensure the information is “digestible” i.e. organized, accessible and readable. I can prepare handouts or notebooks to provide more extensive text.
Space & Environment Planning
Overview: My approach to space planning begins with the logical ordering of space to meet specific needs. Once I’ve met the basic requirements, I look for ways to incorporate multisensory aspects when possible. I believe site visitors expect immersive experiences.
Visual Storytelling
Overview: A carefully designed illustration or diagram can communicate more meaningfully than lengthy text explanations. I use a variety of illustration techniques that include freehand pencil drawings, watercolor, markers, CAD software and hybrid approaches to build illustrations that address specific project requirements.
