Artifacts
Overview: Artifacts are physical objects to provide a sense of reality and engage visitors. Actual artifacts are difficult to locate or prohibitively expensive to borrow. I am able to create a variety of exhibit artifacts that enhance visitor engagement. Below are some examples of work I’ve done.
Punt Gun Boat & Artifacts: Mumford, NY. Using my industrial design, carpentry and boat building skills I was able to recreate a 19th century punt gun boat. Punt gun boats served as a platform for 9 to 12-foot shotguns used to shoot waterfowl. In addition to the boat I created replica gun shells and a shipping crate to help tell the story of this outlawed practice.
Fisher-Price Puppy & Company: East Aurora, NY. To surprise and excite exhibition attendees I created large scale sculptures of Fisher-Price characters at the entry of the Laugh & Learn area. These characters were sculpted from pink insulation foam, sealed and painted to match the toy versions.
Fisher-Price Rainforest: East Aurora, NY. As an introduction to a new product line I created an immersive rainforest environment. A blend of real plants, handcrafted tropical leaves and translucent fabrics were set against a fabric rainforest photo mural backdrop. To add to the fun, bird and animal sounds played in the background, punctuated by a lion roar triggered when visitors entered the space. I built large fake stones and tree stumps as product pedestals.
"Working Like A Dog" Exhibit: Mumford, NY. Working closely with the Genesee Country Village & Museum exhibit curator I developed interpretive panels to tell the story of Working Dogs. Additional elements included Dog Sled Selfie Area and a working treadmill. I also was able to edit a series of videos to show more about how dogs have been used to help humankind over the centuries.
